Winter Storm Preparedness !!

THE WINTER STORMS ARE COMING... LET'S GET PREPARED!
"Warrenton STEP" is sponsoring a preparedness workshop to be held at the Warrenton Community Center (The same content will be covered at each workshop-so pick a date and time that works best for you!)

Monday, November 3, 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Saturday, November 8, 6:30pm - 8:00pm

The interactive workshop will include guest speakers, multi-media presentations and a little fun, too. Door prizes and hand-outs will be provided by OEPO.
  • Review of 2007 Great Coastal Gale - What worked? How can we do better this year?
  • Update on latest Earthquake/Tsunami data - Info from geologist, Tom Horning. Department of Geology Outreach update, web-sites and auto-alerts.
Communications - Ham Radios saved the day in 2007 - YOU CAN HELP IN 2008! Learn how easy it is to get your license. NOAA weather radios - how do they work and where do you get them? FRS radios -(walkie-talkies on steroids) are a great, inexpensive family and neighborhood tool; keep track of people with special needs (seniors, disabled, single-parents).
  • Neighbor-Helping-Neighbor: Do you know who needs help in your neighborhood? A one hour "PrepareWare Party" will get you and your neighbors on track.
  • CERT - Community Emergency Response Team - Clatsop County currently has two CERT groups (Seaside and Astoria). Does Warrenton need/want a CERT?
  • How prepared are you? Check your home and car supplies against STEP standards. We encourage you to bring your own emergency packs to show others.
  • Are your PETS and LIVESTOCK part of your emergency plan? Learn what the county is doing...and what you should be doing to keep your animals safe and secure during and after an emergency.
  • Long-range plans: City Manager, Bob Maxfield, wants to hear from YOU. Come to share your ideas, tell others how you have prepared yourself, your family and your business. Give your input regarding future preparedness efforts in Warrenton.

Workshop contributors include: Deb Treusdell, Oregon Emergency-Prep Outreach; Tom Horning, Clatsop County Geologist; Pat Corcoran, OSU Extension/SeaGrant; Alice Wood, CERT Instructor; Jeannette Nachbar, Washington County Animal Service Supervisor; Gene Strong, Clatsop County Emergency Services.
